SISTER
TESTIMONIALS

Karen Jose
CHAPTER:
Concordia Chapter, University of Connecticut - Fall 2005
Why did you decide to join MSU?
I decided to become a Mu because of the organization’s dedication
for cultural diversity and awareness. From early on as a freshman I
became very active with the cultural centers at UConn, especially with
the Asian American Cultural Center (AsACC). I immersed myself in the
experience, from being on the e-board of the Asian American Student
Association to being a coordinator for the Asiantation Mentoring Program
to representing the AsACC at our campus’ annual Lipsync (dance
competition). But after a while, I wanted to reach out to a more culturally
diverse crowd and to explore new ideas and approaches I haven’t
been exposed to. MSU seemed to be the medium in accomplishing that goal.
What do you enjoy most about being a Mu?
I enjoy being surrounded by a wide range of sisters in regards to
culture, religion, personalities, careers, etc. But regardless of the
differences, everyone is united by a common dedication to this organization,
and it’s what continues to attract others and maintain present
ties.
Tell us a little about yourself (education, occupation, personal
life, etc.)
I am Filipina, born and raised in the Philippines. I am a 6th semester
junior, with an individualized major in Behavioral Genetics at the University
of Connecticut. I pledged Fall ’05 – The Chosen Few –
as #3 of the Minerva Line for the Concordia Chapter. Although I’m
new to the Mu world, it has led to positive changes in my life already
– from improving time management skills, maintaining perseverance,
keeping professionalism while working with different personalities,
and being dedicated to a note-worthy cause.
