SISTER
TESTIMONIALS
MEMBER:
Lisette Ortiz
CHAPTER:
Haumea Chapter, University of Central Florida
– Founding Sister, Spring 2003
Why did you decide to join MSU?
Sisterhood is what attracted me the most to Mu Sigma Upsilon. A group
of sisters came down to visit UCF and although they were all from different
backgrounds and walks of life they exuded a bond with one another that
I had never seen among members of any other organization. That combined
with the fact that the sorority goals coincide with my personal goals
and beliefs is what helped me realize that Mu was meant to be a part
of my life.
What do you enjoy most about being a Mu?
I would have to say that the relationships I have made over the past
few years have been what I have enjoyed the most. Both those within
the Upsilon family, which are most precious to me, and those with members
of other organizations both Greek and Non-Greek and the UCF Faculty
and Staff. Mu has opened my horizons and helped me delve into organizations
and situations that I normally wouldn't have. I have learned more about
inter-personal relationships, politics, and other cultures through Mu
Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Inc. than any class I've taken and these experiences
and relationships will stay with me and continue to help me forever.
Tell us a little about yourself (education, occupation, personal
life, etc.)
My name is Lisette Ortiz and I am a founding sister for the Haumea
Chapter at the University of Central Florida. For the past 3 years Mu
has been a central part of my life and helped me discover strengths
and abilities that I never realized I possessed. Now as an Alumna, I
realize that the leadership and relationship building skills I gained
as a sister are amazing assets in the business world. Furthermore, I
have formed bonds that go beyond just “college friends”.
From the love and support, the jokes to the tears, the events and things
to do, to the arguments on every number of subjects we are family in
every sense of the word. I was diagnosed with lupus (an auto-immune
disease) in the fall of 2002 and although most days I am fine, the support
I have received from my sisters has been invaluable and I am eternally
grateful for everything they have done for me. My sisters truly are
my family and I cannot imagine my life without these amazing women.
